After partying with my church family until the “ball dropped” New Year’s Eve, I got up a few hours later with the stomach bug. Yuck! So, on the first day of the year, my house was not spotless. I did not cook collard greens and black-eyed peas. I had dirty clothes in my laundry basket, and dirty dishes in the sink. I HATE being sick! But, God sends blessings and gave me no choice, except to lean on Him.
You know, when you’re sick, you not only have the time – you take the time to pray. While some of it was definitely “let this cup pass,” I also was able to thank the Lord for my blessings. Hey – I made it to 2019! I thanked God for sending me such a good husband who was willing to take care of me. I prayed for wisdom, confidence, and strengh for myself. I prayed that I would make wise decisions concerning my future. I prayed for my family. I prayed that God would bless all those that I love this year.
I also took time to rest. The past six weeks have been wonderful, but between the decorating, hosting, cooking, and celebrating, I’ve hardly had time to catch my breath. Yesterday, I slept off and on all day, and I actually feel rested today. I know how the Psalmist felt in Psalms 3:5 when he said, “
I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.” Plus, Sophie (my Papillon) and I got some good snuggle time!
Yes, there are many other ways I would have liked to start out the new year, but I believe that the good Lord sometimes puts us on our backs, so that we can look up! God Bless, Courtney
