I woke up in the “wee” hours of the morning today, and most of the time when that happens, if I haven’t gone back to sleep in thirty minutes – I just get up! But, today – I laid there for over TWO HOURS! It wasn’t because it was particularly cold in the house, even though my “spot” in the bed was warm and cozy. It wasn’t even because I thought I’d go back to sleep. After an hour or so, you KNOW that it’s not happening any time soon. No, I laid there this morning – listening to the rain.
Don’t you love waking up and hearing the “pitter-patter” (where did that come from?) on the roof? It isn’t storming outside – no thunder, it was just the lulling sound of the rain coming down. I couldn’t help but think of the verse in Ezekiel 34:26, “And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.” Showers of blessings – what a beautiful promise! Have you been blessed?
Have you tried to count your blessings lately? In spite of the song in White Christmas (and, yes, I watched it no less than four times this year – don’t judge me!), counting my blessings instead of sheep didn’t help me go back to sleep. Instead, it led to my mind just racing, thinking of all of the things with which God has blessed me! There are spiritual blessings, such as the Bible, Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross to make a way for me to go to heaven, the avenue of prayer, and the joy of getting to worship with my church family. Physical blessings are also too numerous to count – such as our food, clothing, the beautiful world in which we live, and that warm bed. Ahh……God has certainly kept His promises.
Thank you, Lord for sending the rain this morning. In Jesus name, Amen. God Bless, Courtney
