Today Steve and I went over my Bible Class lesson this morning since we weren’t able to go to worship with our church family. (So, tired of having the flu! Sorry, I digress.) The lesson was about Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They were captured and taken into Babylonian captivity as youths and were chosen to serve in the king’s house because they were gifted by God (Daniel 1:17). Even though they were in a foreign land, they still knew WHO they were. They refused to defile themselves with the king’s delicacies and wine. Even when threatened with being thrown in a fiery furnace, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow down to Nebuchadnezzar’s golden image.
You know, in today’s society, most people would say, “Well, when in Babylon. . . .” or how about “What happens in Babylon – stays in Babylon!” But these Hebrew youths didn’t feel that way. They remained faithful to their God no matter where they were. They remained faithful to God no matter what the consequences might be for doing so. God always took care of them and provided for them. Isn’t it wonderful knowing that He’ll do the same for us? God Bless, Courtney
