“Once you carry your own water, you will learn the value of every drop! It’s true! When you work for something, you value it more. You are very aware of the cost of waste. You realize the hard work, effort, and time that it took to accomplish this feat. When things come easy or are given to you, you will hopefully, appreciate them, but there’s nothing like that feeling of satisfaction in knowing that “You did it!”
Its easy to “start” something. I bet we’ve all “started” a diet a hundred times. Maybe you started out the year, doing your daily Bible reading or scripture writing- are you still doing it? Starting is easy. Finishing – well, that’s another story. But, it’s only by going through the highs and lows and getting up each time we fall – that’s what makes us value the accomplishment. Heaven will be so sweet for the Christian who is “faithful unto death. He’ll be given a crown of life.” (Rev. 2:10) Paul had been through so much, but in his last letter to Timothy, he said, “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all the also that love his appearing.” (II Tim. 4:6-8) He had been carrying his own water, and he knew the reward. Isn’t it wonderful that we can also have that reward?
