What Will It Take To Make You Happy?

When are you going to be happy? Teenagers often think, “When I get my license, I’ll be happy.” Maybe you’re waiting for graduation, a new job, or settling in to a new home. Maybe you are waiting to get married or have children – then, you’ll be happy, What do you think needs to happen in order for you to be happy? Do you need a new car? Do you need a promotion at work? Will gaining the “best” this life has to offer bring happiness?

I believe that the happiest people don’t have the best of everything. In fact, they don’t even want the best that this life has to offer. Instead of having the best of everything – they make the best of everything. They have learned, as Paul did in Philippians 4:11 when he wrote, “Not that I speak in respect of want, for I have learned, in whatsoever state (condition) I am, therein to be content. Abraham Lincoln once said, “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” Isn’t that the truth! “He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.” (Proverbs 16:20) Proverbs 3:13 says, “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.” By searching God’s Word, we start understanding what His will is – this leads to wisdom – which leads to happiness – knowing that we are “right” with the Lord.

No, the happiest of people don’t have the best of everything, but they make the best of everything – knowing that true happiness comes from obedience to God’s Word. My prayer for you is that you are HAPPY! God Bless, Courtney
