Have you ever thought about all of the roles that you’ve played? At first, I was Frank and Frances Avent’s daughter and Lawyer and Lena Sue Harris’ and Hester Avent’s granddaughter. All the way through school, I was known as Carmie and Caroline’s sister. Then on December 19, 1980, I became Steve Sanders’ wife. I was blessed in 1983 and 1986 to become Dianne and Susan’s Mommy.
In the meantime, I was the “preacher’s wife,” which can be a full-time job! lol! I’ve been a missionary to Russia. I’ve been a world traveler to England, the Holy Land, Greece, and Egypt. (Yes, folks – the pyramids have got to be one of the most amazing sites in the world!) For years while the girls were young, I was a substitute teacher, and then the Parent’s as Teacher’s program coordinator, where I was dubbed, “Ms. Courtney.” I’ve been a Women’s Advocate at the crisis shelter, Eligibility Specialist at a hospital and Case Manager in a Medical Office. I loved being the Business Office Supervisor at our local hospital until it closed last year.
But of all the roles I’ve found myself in – two stand out the most. First and foremost, I’m a Christian. I was baptized at the age of 10, and have endeavored to live my life in such a way that others may “see His good works and glorify His name.” I’m honored to be a Bible class teacher. Oh, how I love our church family! I try to be a good friend – in person and on Facebook! Oh, and I’m a blogger (in case, you didn’t know!)
But one of my FAVORITE roles is that of a Gammy! It’s hard to believe that five years ago today, one small baby boy changed my life forever. Since I had only had two girls, I was a little nervous about being a Gammy to a boy! But what a joy he has brought into our lives! There is nothing like “small arms wrapped around your neck and hearing ‘I love you, Gammy!” And, oh, Gammy loves you, Aiden! Happy Birthday! God Bless, Courtney
