I’m on a “road trip” with my sister, niece, and great-niece, who happens to be 17 months old. We’re in northern Michigan – a 13 hour drive from my house in Missouri. So, how do you keep a one year old happy in the car seat for 13 hours? Bubbles! We’ve blown bubbles through four states! No matter how upset the little one gets – bubbles are a great distraction! What’s so great about bubbles? They’re unexpected fun!
Do you get distracted easily? Satan uses all kinds of “fun” to distract us from following God. He uses sports. He uses entertainment. He even uses worship when he tries to make us “want to make it fun,” instead of worshiping as God has directed. We must remember that the purpose of worship is to please God, and not us. Colossians 3:17 says that, “Whatever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord. . . ” This means by the authority of God. We should concentrate on what God wants us to do, and remember that “the devil walks about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour,” but we can resist him if we are “sober and vigilant.” (I Peter 5:8) We must be awake and watchful to make sure that we’re not distracted from our purpose.
Are you guilty of being distracted by “bubbles?” May we remember what Solomon said at the end of his life, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecclesiates 12:13) God Bless, Courtney
