Have you ever thought of the connection between prayer and faith? When times get tough, we often turn to God in prayer – which is exactly what we should do! The problem comes when we don’t leave it with Him! Are you guilty of “giving it over” to God and then, taking it back?
We know that James says in chapter 5:16 that “. . .the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said to “Ask and it shall be given you; seek and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8) Sometimes we forget to ask. Sometimes we ask amiss. It may be that God is preparing to answer our prayer, but we won’t leave it in His hands. Have you read the 11th chapter of Hebrews lately? It is often called the “Roll Call of the Faithful.” It’s amazing how God always took care of His people. He told them what to do, they obeyed with faith, and He never let them down.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.” (Hebrews 13:8) He hasn’t changed. If we put our faith in His promises, He will be there for us, too. We must not give up on Him and take our burdens back for He will not put more on our shoulders than we are able to bear. We get impatient because we often want God to answer our prayers on our timeline and in the manner we have in mind. It’s easier said than done, but we just need to be still and know that God is in control.
