I have fond memories of hurrying outside after church on Sunday and Wednesday nights and playing “Freeze Tag.” The “bases” were the front wall of the building and the sign, which was out front close to the road. One person was “it” and they tried to tag any person who was “off base.” When you were tagged, you”froze” in whatever position you were in. The last one not frozen, got to be “it” next.
This game we played back when reminds me of how Satan works. As long as we’re faithfully attending worship and growing spiritually by walking “in His steps” (I Peter 2:21), we’re “safe.” But, when we start running in the world, well, then we’re in Satan’s territory. That’s why it’s so important to be faithful! We need the encouragement and support of our Christian family to help us “escape the snare of the devil” (II Timothy 2:26). When the devil takes hold our hearts, he freezes our conscience and tells us that we can do whatever we want – it doesn’t matter.
As fun as it was to play “Freeze Tag” way back when, it’s a dangerous game to play with the devil. May we look towards “home base” and “lay aside every weight , and the sin that so easily beset us and run with patience, the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1). God Bless, Courtney
