Let Freedom Ring. . .

Yesterday we celebrated Independence Day! It was a day to celebrate the freedoms that we enjoy in this country. But those freedoms came with a price. Most of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence either lost their lives, the lives of their families, and their family homes, lands, and fortunes because of their convictions. Their whole worlds changed! What a price they paid!  But, they felt that it was worth it.

We, as Christians also celebrate a “spiritual independence” from this world of sin. It requires our lives to change. We must give up our sinful ways, and “repent and be baptized for the remission of sins.”  (Acts 2:38)  There may be a price that we pay here on earth.  We might have to change jobs.  We may have to buy a new wardrobe.  We may have to find some new friends.  But that is nothing compared to the price that Christ paid on the cross.  “And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” (Philippians 2:8)

The only way we can truly be “independent” from this world of sin is to be “dependent” on our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.  For “When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O Lord, held me up. (Psalm 94:18)  “For I am the LORD your God, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:13)

How wonderful that we are not alone!  Let freedom ring!  God Bless, Courtney
