Not Any Road. . .

I read something today that I just can’t get off my mind. It said, “If you don’t know where you’re going – any road will take you there.” Isn’t that the truth! When we plan on going on a trip, we used to get out a good ole’ map. Now, we “google” a driving plan to find out the quickest way to get to our destination. But if you don’t have a set destination in mind – well, I’m sure you’ll get “somewhere,” but you’d probably just wander around lost.

So many people have the “any road will take you there” mentality. According to FactTank’s 2014 survey, 72% of Americans believe in heaven. At the same time, only 58% believe in hell. We like to think of God as a loving God who wouldn’t send anyone to hell. And, the Bible says that He is a loving God, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (II Peter 3:9) He doesn’t want anyone to perish, but some are just traveling down any old road, and heaven won’t be their final destination.

Some people believe that you can follow any road and get to heaven, but the New Testament teaches us that we must hear (Romans 10:17), believe (Acts 2:38), repent (Acts 3:19), confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (Acts 8:37), be baptized for the remission of our sins (Mark 16:16), and remain faithful unto death (Revelation 2:10), if heaven will be our home. We have to know the right road, if we’re going to go in the right direction because, “Strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matthew 7:14). No, most people are not traveling down the road that leads to heaven.

If you want heaven to be your eternal home, not just any road will take you there. May you follow God and His “road map” to heaven. God Bless, Courtney
