A Clean Shower

I woke up extra early this morning and thought I’d jump in the shower first, instead of waiting until Steve gets done as I usually do on Sunday mornings. As soon as I got in the shower, I thought, “Oh my – it’s time to clean this shower!” Then, it struck me as ironic that the place that we go to get clean – needed cleaning! The only things that are ever stored in there are soap, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner – all things that are used when we’re getting cleaned up. Yet, that shower needed cleaning!

So many times once we become Christians, we think – “Well, I’m clean now! I’ve been baptized and my sins are washed away. I’m a Christian!” And that is true. After baptism, the Lord does add you to the church (Acts 2:47). But, we still live in the world. And even though our sins were washed away, we aren’t perfect. We have a tendency to sin again. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) But it is so comforting to know that “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9) Sometimes we may just need to clean up our environment. Do you need to clean up the sinful situations and language that come into your home though your TV or radio? Do you need to clean out your shower of friends who are tempting you to go back “to the good old days” before you became a Christian? Do you need to clean out your closet of clothes that aren’t befitting a Christian to wear?

We not only need to clean ourselves, we also need to clean our surroundings! Then, we’ll truly be “fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:62) Oh – and we now have a CLEAN shower! God Bless, Courtney
