The “Best” Lemonade

I was flipping through a magazine today when I saw a headline on “How to Make the Best Lemonade.” That got my attention – who doesn’t love cold homemade lemonade on a hot summer day? Sounds good.

The first step – “Choose the best lemons.” Hmmm. . . . You all know the saying, “When life gives you lemons – make lemonade,” well, the number one step in making the perfect lemonade is choosing the best lemons. This can be difficult. But, sometimes you will have to make the choice between two lemons (actions – situations – decisions). At that time, you just have to choose the best LEMON!

So, step two and my first question was – how do you know which lemons are the best? The article said that smaller, heavier lemons have less pith, rind, and seeds. These are the best. You’d think that “bigger is always better,” but evidently not. (So much for my ideas!) Even though it may take more lemons – longer time – and more effort to use smaller ones – they make the best lemonade. Most things that are worth anything don’t come easy. We may have to break a project down into smaller steps to get things done. It may take longer and more effort to accomplish a great feat – but, it will be worth it in the long end.

Step 3 and 4 – Store the lemons in the freezer until the night before you’re going to make lemonade. Thaw, and then, microwave for 30 seconds on high before juicing. This evidently allows you to get every drop of juice. In the same way, sometimes, we may have to go through extremes before we’re ready to give our lives over to Him. God may put us on our backs, so that we can look up! We are not promised that life will be easy, not even after we become a Christian. What Jesus did promise is that if we are “faithful unto death, He will give us a crown of life.” (Revelation 2:10) You might want to try these tips when making lemonade AND when living your life!
