What Do People Think of You?

This week I’ve been writing the scriptures on your “Reputation.” In our society, it doesn’t take much for your reputation to be ruined. Just one person has to speak out with an accusation, and you’re considered guilty whether you actually did the deed or not. Or you can say something meaning one thing, but if someone can twist it somehow, you’ll find yourself on the defense. The memory verse that I wrote every day was Proverbs 22:1, “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver an gold.” Riches come and go, but how you are thought of within your family, your church family, and with all who know you is priceless.

In I Timothy 3:7, we learn that elders must have “a good report of them which are without.” Romans 12:17 tells us to “provide thing honest in the sight of all men.” In the sermon on the mount, Jesus said to “Let your light so shine before me that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Today’s entry was I Timothy 4:12 where Paul was trying to encourage young Timothy, “Let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation (manner of life), in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” Think about those categories. “In word” means that our speech should always be clean. “In manner of life” means that how we act matters. “In love” – are you always kind? “In spirit” – how is your relationship with God? Are you growing spiritually every day? “In Faith” – are you studying, learning, teaching? And, “in purity” – oh how we need those who keep themselves pure – before marriage and after marriage.

I’ve really enjoyed this study on your “Reputation,” or maybe I should say “my reputation! For we must not only learn God’s word, but we must apply it to our lives so that we will be pleasing to both God and man. God Bless, Courtney
