When You’re Hot, You’re Hot!

Have you been hot this week? The heat index has been over 100 degrees! I don’t know about you, but I HATE to be hot! The air has been down at work and it’s been HOT! I stole Steve’s oscillating fan from his workshop and took it to work. It helps, but, still – it’s been pretty warm.

Today, someone asked me, “How in the world are you working in this hot office?” I tried to explain that “being hot” is actually impacted by your state of mind. I love my job. I love my co-workers, and I love the fact that we’re reaching out to help those who need a hand up. It really doesn’t matter what the temp is – I choose to be there. I don’t want to be anywhere else.

Do you remember the saying, “Folks are probably about as happy as they make up their minds to be?” When hard times come our way – and they inevitably will – we can either gripe and complain, or we can make the best of it. Are you a “half full” or “half-empty” glass sort of person? Which kind of person would you choose to be around? In Philippians 4:11, Paul said, “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am therewith to be content.” At the time when Paul wrote this, he was imprisoned – chained to Roman guards. Yet, he was able to encourage the brethren in Philippi to “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say, Rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4) How could he say this? It was because he knew “the peace of God which passeth all understanding. . .” (Philippians 4:7)

Happiness, contentment, and the ability to endure comes from within. Now, that doesn’t mean that I don’t hope the air is fixed tomorrow! The last couple of days have reminded me of how much I don’t want to go to hell! Oh, and thank you Mr. Willis Carrier who invented the first electrical air conditioning unit in 1902! You are one of my heroes! God Bless, Courtney
