I don’t know about you, but I try to be a nice person. I try to be fair, honest, and kind. But today I was reminded of something – It doesn’t matter how much you try, some folks are not going to like you. There are going to be moments when you’re not popular. It may be because they’re jealous of you. Maybe it’s because you had to correct them or remind them that there are consequences for their actions. Maybe they don’t like you because you’re too tall or too short, too skinny or too fat? Maybe they’re really upset about something else – totally unrelated, but you happen to be the one in the line of fire. One thing is definitely true – you will never be liked by all people all of the time.
So, how do you deal with it? You could take it personally and harbor ill feelings towards that person. They may soon forget about it, but if you let the event fester and grow inside you – it can cause you to sin. You could react in kind – get angry and give them the “what for” back. That might make you feel better temporarily, but it puts you lower than their level and can ruin your Christian influence forever.
Me – I chose to smile and say, “I’m sorry that you feel that way.” It may not have changed the way they felt, but I pray that tomorrow – we will all have a better day! God Bless, Courtney
