It was cloudy on my way to work this morning. Then, I saw it – the most beautiful rainbow! Wow! It changed my whole attitude. I knew that it was going to be an amazing day, no matter what happened because I was reminded of the promises of God. “According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises. . .” (II Peter 1:3-4a) Yes, He empowers us and encourages us by providing us with everything that we need – it’s a promise!
After destroying the world with the great flood in Genesis 7-9, God made a covenant with Noah and his sons, promising, “. . . neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood, neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud and it shall be a token of a a covenant between me and the earth.” (Genesis 9:12-13) God said that when He looked upon it, He would remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
What do you think of when you look at a rainbow? Do you think of the amazing promises of God? Do you remember that Jesus said, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will given you rest?” (Matthew 11:28) Do you realize that “neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39) “. . . They that seek the Lord shall not want for any good thing.” (Psalm 34:10b) “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
Thank you, Lord, for the rainbow and may it always remind us of Your precious promises. In Jesus name, Amen. God Bless, Courtney
