To say that yesterday was a hard day at work is an understatement. It was a day when difficult decisions had to be made and I was so busy, I didn’t feel like I was doing anything well. Have you ever felt overwhelmed and questioned if you were making a positive impact on those around you? It was one of “those” days. Then, I had a staff member ask me if I saw his email about fixing his time clock. When I said, “Yes, it’s done,” he said, “You’re a good person.” Wow! How I needed that at that moment! All of a sudden, work went from being a “job” to a “joy!”
Joy has been my “theme” word this month. Joy can come in unexpected places at unexpected times. Sometimes it “pops” up, and sometimes we have to look for it. But, even in prison, chained to Roman guards, Paul was able to say, “Rejoice in the Lord, always and again I say, Rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4)
Living the Christian life is sometimes very difficult. We may struggle with our language, our attitudes, and our bad habits. We may have trouble forgiving someone else or even forgiving ourselves for things done in the past, but as Steve has often said, “Duty will become desire” as our faith matures. The “I have to go to church today” becomes, “Yay, it’s the Lord’s Day, and I get to worship with my church family today!” A “job” will become a “joy!”
So today, I encourage each of you, my friends, to smile (even though it’s a messy, cold rainy day). God loves you, and you are not alone. You’ve got this! May you have a wonderful day as you look for the joy in your job! God Bless, Courtney
