O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree

“I love Christmas!” You’ve probably heard someone say that before, but I LOVE CHRISTMAS! I really do! One of the things I look forward to the most is sitting down in the living room with nothing but the lights from the trees on. It is so peaceful. And, yes – I did say trees – plural. I have two trees this year.

The first one is my “Love Tree.” Steve and I got married on December 19, 1980. We put up a pitiful little tree in our first two bedroom apartment in Memphis. We bought a couple of boxes of those “gaudy glass ornaments” (that are now collector’s items) and one nice ball Hallmark ornament. Every year, we have bought a ball-shaped ornament. This year, we now have forty ornaments – one from each Christmas that we’ve shared together as husband and wife. Finally, enough for their own tree. I just love it!

Then, there is my “Ole’ Fashioned Memory Tree.” I always said that you can’t have too many ornaments! If you can see green – you can use another ornament! This tree represents five generations of family ornaments. There are handmade ornaments that my girls made (even one that I made in kindergarten – way back when). There are ornaments from some of our favorite places – Russia, Gatlinburg, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Boston, Grand Lake, Colorado, and New Orleans. There are precious ornaments given to me by dear friends, my unique Santa collection ornaments, and wooden ones that my family painted when I was in Jr. High School. And, of course, Aiden’s favorite – candy canes!

I love my Christmas trees because they remind me of where I came from. They might not be all “color coordinated,” and they are definitely not “designer trees,” but I’m not a “designer person.” I’m a colored lights, tacky silver tinsel, and three ornaments on every limb kind of girl. It’s important to know “who” you are and to “like” yourself. God Bless, Courtney
