I believe that one of the greatest blessings that God has given us is the avenue of prayer. How awesome is it that the Lord deems us so important that He wants to hear from us! Even though He knows “the secrets of our hearts,” (Psalm 44:21), as a parent wants to “hear about their child’s day at school,” the Lord wants us to talk to Him. As I was thinking about the opportunity that I’ve been given to see the beginning of the year 2020, I started thinking about my prayer for this new year.
I pray that I will become a better Bible student. Not only do I want to “write His Word on my heart,” I want to spend time meditating on it, applying it to my life personally. I pray that I will be a good example and influence – in speech, in dress, and in manner of life so that others will see my good works and glorify God which is in heaven. If I can’t say something nice, may I keep my mouth shut. I pray that I will listen twice as much as I talk (The Lord did give us two ears and only one mouth, you know!) I pray that I will take time to “stop and smell the roses,” spending time enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of this beautiful world that the Lord created for us – not taking those sunsets for granted. May I put my computer and/or cell phone down and give my grandson, Aiden, my whole attention when he is visiting – Children should never have any doubt that they are more important than a “game.”
I pray that I will be the kind of friend that I would like to have. May I remember those who are sad or lonely. A kind word, a call, or a card can “make someone’s day,” and go a long way to ease their pain. May I strive to be POSITIVE! I’m a “child of the King!” May I act like it! May I pray more; smile more! May I always be humble, admitting when I am wrong and striving to follow “in His steps.” (I Peter 2:21) May I be careful for nothing, prayerful for everything, and thankful for all things. (Philippians 4:6) In Jesus name, Amen.
