On the Defense. . .

There is a “hearing” going on in Washington the last week or so which has taken our country by storm. It’s hard to turn on the TV or even get online without “hearing the news” (whether it’s real news or fake news – you decide). But one of the things that has impressed me are the two groups which have been chosen to plead their cases before the Senate. There is a whole “team” working to defend each side of the positions.

This got me to thinking how, we as Christians don’t need a “slew of attorneys.” We have the best “lawyer” ever – Jesus Christ, our Lord. John comforted New Testament Christians by saying, “My little children, I am writing these things unto you, so that ye may not sin. But if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” (I John 2:1) We don’t need a “defense team” because we have the perfect Spokesman – One who has been there and done that as 100% human, yet He is also 100% God. “He was in all points, tempted as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15b) He knows how we are feeling, for He has personally felt that way, too, and because of that, He can plead our case. “It is Christ that died, yea, rather is risen again, Who is even at the right hand of God, Who also maketh intercession for us.” (Romans 8:34) When Stephen was being stoned to death, Acts 7:55 says that “he, being filled with the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly unto heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus, standing on the right hand of God.” In a ballgame, when the score is tied and it’s coming down to the wire, everyone stands up. When Stephen was walking through the valley of the shadow of death, Jesus had jumped to His feet. He knew what Stephen was going through.

How He cares for each of us! May we strive to walk worthy. God Bless, Courtney

  1. I think this is the only place where it is mentioned in the Bible that Jesus is standing on the right hand of God. The other places he is setting.

    1. I believe that you are right, Bill.
