I was watching the President’s Daily Press Conference on the COVID19 pandemic yesterday when I was struck by the phrase emphasized by Dr. Deborah Birx. While describing the seriousness of the spread of the coronavirus, she said, “This is the time.” If we’re going to, as Barney Fife would say, “Nip it, nip it in the bud!”, we have to take social distancing and sheltering at home seriously. There is danger ahead, if we don’t take action. The next week to ten days are critical. “This is the time.”
So many are concerned about getting the coronavirus (as we should be), but the odds of Americans dying of the virus are 2-3%. The odds of dying and facing the Lord at Judgment Day – 100%. Paul urged the church in Corinth that “this is the time.” “For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” (II Corinthians 6:2) Saul (Paul) was told by Ananias, “And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” (Acts 22:16) He knew that he was lost, and when he was told what to do – he did it. I’ve never understood how people can know the truth, believe the truth, yet – they put off obeying the truth, like Felix did. After he heard Paul preach unto him, “Felix was terrified, and answered, ‘Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.”‘ (Acts 24:25) He was putting it off – so sad, for God’s word never says that that “convenient season” ever came.
My Friends, “This is the time.” Simply blessed, Courtney
