Today is a day of remembrance. It’s “Patriot’s Day” – a day that we remember our country being attacked by terrorists. It is a day that we remember those who died from the attacks, as well as those first responders who hurried towards the destruction while others were running away. I’m sure that you remember where you were when the plane flew into that first tower. It was a day that we should never forget.
There are other times when God warned His people to not forget. When the children of Israel had taken over the promised land, Moses warned, “Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping His commandments, and His judgments, and His statutes, which I command thee this day:” (Deuteronomy 8:11). The Psalmist said, “I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word (Psalm 119:16) “His commandments – His judgments – His statutes – His Word” are all things which we must not forget.
Solomon reminded us that we should “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them” (Ecclesiastes 12:1). We are to “remember those who rule over you” (Hebrews 13:7). And the greatest of all is when Jesus said, “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more” (Hebrews 8:12).
May we never forget that we are simply blessed, Courtney
