Caught?

With the rapid spread of COVID-19, we are very nervous when anyone mentions “catching” something. We “duck” when someone coughs. We wear masks and stay the required six feet apart from others. But lots of things are easily spread – gossip, fear, and even applause and laughter. We don’t want to be the last one to “get the joke,” so we join the crowd, whether we “get it or not.” And don’t even get me started on “yawning!” Any preacher or teacher can testify to that one!

But one thing that can’t be “caught” is religion. I know that many believe that we should “catch the Spirit,” but the gospel isn’t something that is CAUGHT – it’s something that is TAUGHT! Jesus explained, “Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:19). In His final words to His disciples, as He was basically giving them their “marching orders” – in the Great Commission, He told them to “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19). Paul encouraged Timothy, “The things that  thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also” (II Timothy 2:2). So, not only must we be taught the Gospel, we also have the responsibility to teach others. Will there be anyone else in heaven because you cared enough to “teach” them the “Good News?”

We are all, simply blessed, Courtney
