Have you been hot this week? The heat index has been over 100 degrees! I don’t know about you, but I HATE to be hot! We have an oscillating fan going at all times. It helps, but, still – it’s been pretty warm. Now, how I deal with being “hot,” is determined not by the “outside temps,” but it comes from within.
Do you remember the saying, “Folks are probably about as happy as they make up their minds to be?” When hard times come our way – and they inevitably will – we can either gripe and complain, or we can make the best of it. Are you a “half full” or “half-empty” glass sort of person? Which kind of person would you choose to be around? In Philippians 4:11, Paul said, “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am therewith to be content.” At the time when Paul wrote this, he was imprisoned – chained to Roman guards. Yet, he was able to encourage the brethren in Philippi to “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say, Rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4) How could he say this? It was because he knew “the peace of God which passeth all understanding. . .” (Philippians 4:7)
Happiness, contentment, and the ability to endure comes from within. Now, that doesn’t mean that I’m not dreaming of cooler temps and RAIN! But honestly, the last couple of weeks have reminded me of how much I don’t want to go to hell! Oh, and thank you Mr. Willis Carrier who invented the first electrical air conditioning unit in 1902! You are one of my heroes! Simply blessed, Courtney
