Momma Said. . . (Part 8)

In honor of Mother’s Day weekend, I thought I’d have to write a “Momma Said. . .” post. Today’s post is about a quote that all Mothers have said when they’ve had a “day.” “I hope that one day you have a child JUST LIKE YOU!” Now that I’m a Gammy and it’s happened, it’s so funny! Back in the day – not so much.

There are some attributes that we hope our children inherit. We want them to look like they belong to us – hair, eyes, something! We also want them to inherit a grateful attitude, a willingness to help others, and a gentle spirit. We want them to have our good work ethic, and be loyal and honest. But, as all parents know – even the “best children” have those days when we’d like to auction them off on Craigslist for a good price! It’s bound to happen – that’s their job – to push the boundaries so that they know where they are. That’s when Momma grimaces and says, “I hope you have a child just like you one day!”

Any parent with more than one child, knows that you can’t use the same tactics with one that works with the other. They are all different.
I had two girls who were very different in disposition. One talked (and talked, and talked). One squealed. One was more of a risk taker. One loved being outside and one loved being inside with a book. But with both, there were times when I said those “dreaded words,” and now, I can sit back and enjoy my grandson “driving Mommy crazy” talking and asking questions, and talking and asking questions. . . Yep, she’s getting paid back for her raising! Which is only right – right?

Happy Mother’s Day, everyone! God Bless, Courtney
