We’re Home!

This week Steve and I met a school bus and enjoyed watching the little ones get off and run to the house. It reminded me of this blog that I wrote several year back and I wanted to share it again.

I had to go to work early this morning, so I was so excited to be able to get away a little early this afternoon. I thought I’d get home early, but what happened? I got behind a school bus. Now, as most of us – I thought, “Oh no!” when I saw those flashing yellow lights up in front of me. “Maybe I can pass it!” After several people turned off the road, I ended up right behind the bus – and then, I didn’t want to pass it anymore. I just sat there smiling. It was the sweetest thing, seeing those children jump off that bus and run “full speed ahead” to their homes. Often, there was a “face” at the door waiting on them. The weekend was finally here and they were excited!

This made me think about that moment when we get to those pearly gates of heaven. The pure joy of “finally” getting to go home – Oh, my! Will we be running with all of our might? I think of the prodigal son of Luke 15 who, when he came to himself and decided to go back home, his father was watching down the road. When he spotted his son, coming home hungry, tired, and in rags – it didn’t matter. The father ran to meet that beloved son. God, our heavenly Father, is watching for us. He is waiting for us to “remember Whose sons and daughters we are.” He is waiting for us at “home.”

May we live our lives in such a way that heaven will be our eternal home. Oh, how I want to be there. Jesus has gone to prepare “mansions for us and will receive us unto Himself, that where He is, we shall be also.” (John 14:2-3) I hope my mansion is next to yours. God Bless, Courtney
